While we always recommend hiring an arborist for your tree care, there are a few things you can do as a homeowner to help promote healthy growth of your trees. By following these four simple tree tips you will help your trees to grow and flourish. They will continue to look stunning and beautiful for decades. Our top four homeowner tree care tips are:
1. Water – Water is vital for healthy tree growth. We recommend that you water your trees with a healthy amount of water once a week. The water should reach 12-18 inches in depth. We recommend thoroughly watering once a week over watering several times a week.
2. Invasive plants – If you notice other plants starting to grow around or on your trees, we recommend that you remove them. Allowing other plants, especially if they are an invasive species, can stunt the growth of your trees.
3. Mulch – It is recommended to not allow grass to grow around your tree and its roots. Grass will compete for needed nutrients. Instead of grass we recommend 2-4 inches of mulch. Don’t allow the mulch to pile up, but instead apply an even layer.
4. Call an Arborist – Our final tree tip is to call an arborist any time you notice a change in your tree. This change can be in the leaves, trunk, bark or surrounding area. An arborist will be able to quickly identify any issues with your tree and make recommendations on how to ensure its healthy growth.
